Air Source Heat Pump Installation Guide

With the increasing awareness of environmental protection and the need to mitigate global warming, eco-friendly products are widely applied to household, industrial and commercial occasions. Air source heat pumps, regarded as the most environmentally friendly and high-efficient product for consuming the surrounding air to function, are favored by people after they appear on the market.

With the popularity of air-source heat pumps, it is obvious that almost every family has an air source heat pump. Buying an air-source heat pump is a simple decision while installing it is troublesome. Moreover, installing an air-source heat pump is important for your project since wrong installations may affect certain spaces of your building. Therefore, our professional team breaks down the air-source heat pump installation process and gathers some common questions about the installation so that you will have a comprehensive understanding of the process.

Can You Install Air Source Heat Pumps by Yourself?

For different heat pump products, the installation requirements are also different. Some small mini swimming pool heat pumps can be used with simple installation, such as connecting water pipes and connecting wires. In this case, you dont need a professional installer and just need to follow the steps in the manual to finish the installation. However, for larger heat pumps, such as hot water heat pumps and heating and cooling heat pumps, the installation process is technical and complex, so it is better to install them under the guidance of experienced installers.

What Will the Installer do When Installing Air Source Heat Pumps?

A professional installer specialized in installing air source heat pumps can solve problems that may occur when you try to install the pump yourself. For example, a qualified installer can not only install air-source heating systems properly to guarantee the best heating abilities but also connect plumbing circuits to ensure the normal operation of heat pumps. So lets take the R32 inverter heating and cooling heat pump as an example. The following are important things that an experienced installer will do.

Step 1: Install necessary equipment for the heat pump

√ Power supply cables

√ PVC tubes

√ PVC adhesive

√ Sandpaper

√ Wall plugs

√ Expansion screws

√ Fastening studs

Step 2: Choose the right location to install the heat pump

√ The ground: the concrete floor.

√ Provide a water drainage device to protect the installation area.

√ Use mounting pads to raise the pump if necessary.

√ Choose a location that is properly ventilated.

√ Do not install near a road or track.

√ Do not expose to oil, flammable, gases, corrosive products, etc.

√ Install the pump out of the reach of children.

√ The minimum allowable distance between the pump and the surrounding walls is: the distance between the air inlet surface and the air inlet surface is more than 300 mm, and the distance between every 2 heat pumps is more than 600 mm.

√ Install anti-snow facilities in snowy areas.

Step 3: Pay attention to the installation layout and notice

√ Close the gate value to test pressure.

√ “Y” filter (60 mesh) must be installed at the inlet pipe of the main engine.

√ Clean water quality and usage regularly.

√ Install the relief valve, bypass valve, and other valve parts in the direction of the arrow of the valve body.

√ Water injection is required to detect leakage after installation.

Step 4: Electrical installation and connection

Disconnect the power supply before the operation

√ The general electricity supply must be protected by a 30mA differential switch.

√ The heat pump must be connected to a suitable D-curve circuit breaker in accordance with national standards.

√ The cable must be suitable for outdoor use.

√ Install the three-phase system in the correct sequence.

√ Install an emergency stop button close to the heat pump in public.

√ Detach the electrical side panel with a screwdriver to access the electrical terminal block.

√ Insert the cable into the heat pump port.

√ Connect the power supply cable to the terminal block.

Step 5: Inspection before trial running

Confirm the below items before running:

√ Correct unit installation

√ Correct piping and wiring

√ Correct ground wire connecting

√ The same power supply voltage and unit rated voltage

√ Unlocked air inlet and outlet

√ Unlocked drainage and venting

√ No water leakage

√ Leakage protector is working

√ Piping insulation is working

Step 6: Trial running

√ Fill the water tank with water before power is switched on.

√ Empty all air within pipes and water tank.

√ Check essential items during the running test: unit current, buttons on the control panel, display screen, condensate drain, sound, and vibration.
